About Character Counter
This character counter tool helps you count characters, words, lines, sentences, and paragraphs in your text. It's perfect for writers, students, and anyone who needs to track text length for social media posts, essays, or any other writing project.
Features
- Character Count: Total number of characters including spaces
- Characters (no spaces): Character count excluding spaces
- Word Count: Total number of words
- Line Count: Number of lines in your text
- Sentence Count: Total number of sentences
- Paragraph Count: Number of non-empty lines, as in Microsoft Word
- Letters: Only alphabetic letters, without digits, spaces or punctuation
- Bytes: Size of the text in UTF-8, useful for database fields and APIs with byte limits
- SMS messages: How many text messages the text needs (160 characters for one standard message, 70 if it contains emoji or other non-GSM characters)
How Characters Are Counted
Every visible character counts as one, including spaces and line breaks. Emoji and accented letters also count as one character each, even though computers store them as several code units. Some platforms count differently: X, for example, counts every link as 23 characters and some emoji and CJK characters as two, so treat the limit bars as a guide. Search engines cut off titles and descriptions by pixel width rather than characters, so the 60 and 160 character limits are approximate.
