What Changes the Number of Words Per Page?
- Line spacing: Double spacing fits half as many words as single spacing.
- Font size: Going from 12 pt to 10 pt fits roughly 40% more words on a page.
- Font: Times New Roman and Garamond are narrow; Verdana and Courier New are wide.
- Page size and margins: A 6 x 9 inch book page holds about two thirds of a Letter page.
- Paragraphs, dialogue and headings: Short lines leave white space, so fiction with a lot of dialogue has fewer words per page.
